The Melons!

 

I am so excited about my melon greenhouse.

I can barely handle how excited I am.

It is humid in there and hot and they love it.

It is kind of a jungle and Matt said he counted at least 50 there were visible the other day.

That means there are a LOT of melons in there.

My favorite one is called Prescott Fond Blanc.

It's the one I am showing in the picture.

Ah!

I am so excited!

Random Life

 

*The squirrels are loving the trash this summer. 
I wonder what their stash looks like...

* Sam found some mushrooms after all the rain we had. 

* We harvested a ton of basil

* The veggies are starting to come on

* Saw a weird goat in the back of a truck on the highway

* I thought I was cute in my outfit today

Sunday With Penny

 

Today Penny's parents needed to work on their tiny home and all the other cousins were sick so we got to spend the whole time with Penny. 

We started with a tea party complete with rhubarb lemonade, grapes and mini pb&j's.

We also made an angel food cake with all our extra eggs that we gathered together and Penny cracked and separated all of them.

We picked berries, hung out in Hammock town, ate strawberry angel food cake with whipped cream and hung out in Hammock Town again. 

It was a great way to spend a Sunday. 

Cousin Time

 

I currently live in this little pocket of time that feels a little like heaven.

We are surrounded by our kids and grandkids.

They are getting to grow up a little together.

And I'm not sure what is better than that.

Today we had so much sun. 

We spent time eating popsicles and playing at the lake for a moment.

We found a frog in the garden area that we then took to the lake to be free there. 

It was just one of those days that I am so grateful happened. 

The Week Catch up

 

Just a quick catch up for the week. 
Summer has FINALLY come to Harvest Point Farms. 

This are finally growing and we are harvesting.

Here are some pictures from the last few days. 

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Melon Mania

 

It's always interesting to me how you can see what you focus on and that good and hard exist at the same time always. 

We have some hard things:

Matt is struggling to heal and be okay.

The roof never got finished so it is leaking horribly ruining the sheetrock in places.

With Matt not working our finances are going to be in a shambles in about two seconds.

The mechanics still have my car, for the last 6 weeks, and when I call they always give me some sob story about why they haven't gotten it in yet- I'm breaking up with them after they finish this warranty job. 

And it has not stopped raining for along time. We are breaking records for rainfall in July. Which makes the garden a problem. 

AND

We are surrounded by wonderful people who check on us.

Several have helped us out financially.

We have Corban and Dallin on property to help with things.

I can still work.

Our grandkids come around often and that cheers us up. 

And my favorite right now is that the melon greenhouse has taken off and we are finally going to be successful growing melons in Alaska. 

We planted several unique varieties.

One is called, Prescott Fond Blanc and I am so excited about it because it looks like a pumpkin but then you cut into it and it is a melon.

Anyway, the best way to live is to focus on the good that is happening around you.

There will always be hard things. Always.

But there will also always be good things! 

Sundays at Ninny and Papa's

 

Sunday's around here are a little crazy sometimes. 

I think Dallin and Jessie get home from church and then their children 'mysteriously' disappear and they don't even check to see if they are even still alive for hours. 

I think they are napping. 
which I don't blame them. 

They are such a joy, but very active.

This next picture is of Afton teaching the littles how to play his version of Risk.

I love that they are all close by, some closer than others, and that I can play with them whenever.

Our New Stove

 

We called the appliance repair guy to come out and switch over the stove from natural gas to propane. 

Wait.

Back up. 

Matt picked up a new stove for us when he went to Oregon and bought a truck, because the one we had was from marketplace that we got pretty cheap and was a little precarious. 

If you tried to use the oven part, there would be a bit of leaking gas and an explosion, which no one really wants that.

The new stove is a Fisher Paykel which is a really expensive one that we got for like $300!

It's been sitting in the garage for months and I told Matt that we needed to get that taken care of. 

We ordered the conversion kit and then Matt called the guy to come and do it since he can not bend, lift or twist because of his back surgery. 

Well, dude comes out the first time and does not know what he's doing so he tells Matt he is going to do some research and then come back in a day or so. 

He tells Matt that the last time he fixed a Fisher Paykel was 5 years ago, so either they don't break or no one is buying them. 

That sounds like a good thing. 

Then he comes back in the day or so and still has no idea what he is doing and ends up leaving again and says he will come back. 

It's not a short drive out here. 

He is wasting my time and his. 

So I did it myself! 

I literally went to the internet and figured it out and Matt helped with a few orifices and Corban helped with two of them and tonight the stove is now working. 

And isn't it so beautiful there?

It fits perfectly and now we don't have to go out and turn off the propane between every use because of leaks....

It's the little things honestly. 

Also, Corban and I changed the breaks on the van and next up will be finishing the metal on the roof with Dallin.

I feel so accomplished. 

Freeing the Squirrel

 

There is a squirrel that is stocking up for winter with our rubbish.

Also, don't you love the word rubbish?

It sounds so much better than trash or garbage. 

Well, the rubbish pick up was this morning and on my way back to the house from the garden I heard a commotion in the dumpster. 

That little guy had gone in to get some brunch and, not only found nothing to eat, but also found that he could not extricate himself from the rubbish bin (I wonder how many times I can use rubbish in one post).

I watched him as he jumped and jumped trying to get out to no avail. 

SO a rescue was thought of! 

I grabbed a piece of a tree branch that was next to the rubbish bin :) and placed it carefully so he could climb out. 

He scampered off quickly once he was out and I felt like I had accomplished goodness today. 

Auggie Turns Two!

 

Today our Auggie turned two. 

He has his birthday at Nunley Park.

It was a little cold.

This summer has been weird.

But Kyle made burgers that were SO good and they even had homemade buns. 

The kids played on the play ground and had so much fun with the bubble gun. 

I kind of love being their grandma Ninny. 

It's the best thing in the world.

The Reindeer Farm

 

Today was our last full day with Janell and her family.

Grandma D is in the hospital.

She broke her ankle and not a little bit. A LOT!

So the rest of her vacation has been relaxing in the hospital until they fly out tomorrow night. 

Makenna, Auggie and Anna met us at the reindeer farm and we got to feed moose and reindeer and also go on a tractor ride.

Janell and Kristyn loved it. 

I just loved being with these people.
